Compiz Fusion Ubuntu 8.10 and How to Configure ATI and NVIDIA

Compiz Fusion is The Elegant Desktop in Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex

Linux Ubuntu 8.10 presents with many advantages, that issued Ubuntu 8.10 repository and the repository is consist from 14.000 package applications. Compiz Fusion is an application to manage a beautiful desktop. If you want to compiz fusion with many advantages, you can install:


joe_engressia#: apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager

After the installation finished, press combination Alt+F2 and input ccsm

CCSM is an application that is useful to configure compiz fusion. Compiz fusion can work optimal, if You vga card is detected by Linux Ubuntu. If You used Vga card ATi and NVIDIA, you can use my tips to configure VGA CARD :

How to Configure ATi Video Card:

1. When you installed linux ubuntu 8.10, video card ATi 8.10 has installed in your pc defaultly. But, It doesn't work optimally. Following steps will turn off the default radeon driver and replace with the original ATI driver, Please open a terminal:

joe_engressia$: sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak

joe_engressia$: sudo aticonfig --initial -- input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf

2. Set the compiz driver initialization so that It past ATi driver that in the blacklist

joe_engressia$: echo SKIP_CHECKS="yes" >> $HOME/.config/compiz/compizmanager


In addition to the above ways, you can also use the following:

joe_engressia$:gksu pico /usr/bin/compiz

Searcing ATi driver, and input fglrx:
#Driver whitelist
WHITELIST="nvidia intel ati radeo i810 fglrx"

Restart your pc, when the configuration finished.


How to configure NVIDA Video Card
In Ubuntu 8.10 repository, there is nvidia driver. So, You can be easy to install it. Let's do it:

joe_engressia$: sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-new nvidia-kernel-common
