You get problem when do the command tar -jxvf,
Sorry my good friend, It is my false,
You can't do the command tar -jxvf firefox 3.5.4.tar.gz2 -C /opt

firefox 3.5.4.tar.gz2 should be firefox-3.5.4.tar.gz2

Or you can extract via GUI to /opt.

press Alt+F2 >> gksu nautilus

You will be a root on nautilus desktop.
you can copy and extract firefox.tar.gz2 to /opt using GUI. I am sure, you will be easier to do that via GUI.
