How to Install GUI Desktop Environment on Ubuntu Server

ubuntu.jpgUbuntu Server is a linux that has function as Server operating system such as pre-emptive multitasking, memory protection, multi user facilities, TCP/IP networking, binary compatibility, and etc. In generally, a server operating system has only terminal or console as desktop environment. So, We have to type some commands to configure the OS. You can work on GUI desktop environment on Ubuntu Server with following these article.


Install GUI desktop environment on Ubuntu Server
  1. Make sure you have connected on Internet Repository or Local Repository
    Update repository to start installation Desktop Environment.

    sudo apt-get update

  2. Install GNOME desktop

    • Full installation with some applications such as open office,etc.

      sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

    • Minimum installation of GNOME desktop

      sudo aptitude install --no-install-recommends ubuntu-desktop

  3. Install KDE desktop

    sudo apt-get install
    kubuntu-desktop

  4. Install XFCE desktop

    sudo apt-get install

I recommend that you install the xfce desktop on ubuntu server, because It includes a lightweight desktop environment.
