Install Google Earth.bin on Ubuntu 9.04

Google is an internet giant that has many products and are very helpful in running a user job. One of Google products that will be discussed is Google Earth. Google earth is an application that has function to look the surface of the earth through satellite images. Using Google Earth, you can see the area where you live via air. The application support on Linux OS, therefore If you want to install google earth on linux, please follow this article step by step.. OkAY Pal?? ^_^

Before Installing google earth, please check this out benefits of google earth :

  • Can observe the surface of the earth,

  • Google earth has cooperation with Disney, so that visitors who want to vacation to disney you Can see Disney in the form of 3D using Google Earth,

  • Google Earth can display low-resolution satellite images that illustrate mountains, sea, forest, up to a high-resolution satellite images that can describe objects such as roads, houses, offices, etc.


Okay Pal, We will install Google Earth on Linux OS, I tried on Ubuntu 9.04. File Google Earth that will be installed in binary form or googleearth-linux-plus-4.3.7284.3916.bin. Let's do it :

  1. Download Google Earth 4.3

  2. Go to terminal as root and save file google earth at /home directory

    $ sudo su
    # cd /home
    # chmod 777 googleearth-linux-plus-4.3.7284.3916.bin
    # googleearth-linux-plus-4.3.7284.3916.bin

    Instruction will appear and follow it's instruction until finish. If Installation success, Google Earth there is Application | Internet | Google Earth

Or, If Google Earth doesn't appear at Applications, you can run it via terminal. Type googleearth.

For the last one, you need to do "# sh *google earth .bin title*"

cos the google earth file is not .sh but .bin, so we don't need to do your way.

This doesn't work on Mandriva 2009.1 Spring Free - any suggestions what to make it work?

Don't tell me to rtfm - been there, done that...

Hi lol, I haven't tried to using Mandriva. but, I think every linux when install .bin application has a common way. So, I only explain my way step by step.:

1. $ sudo su --> in ubuntu we use it to be root

2. # cd /home --> directory, where is google earth placed (this command can be used for all linux)

3. # chmod 777 googleearth-linux-plus-4.3.7284.3916.bin --> change mode of google earth so we can read, write, and execute (this command can be used for all linux)
or you can use

# chmod +x googleearth-linux-plus-4.3.7284.3916.bin --> change mode execution

4. # googleearth-linux-plus-4.3.7284.3916.bin

starting installation of google earth

On Mandriva 2010.0, just use konqueror to right click on downloaded file, choose Properties then Permissions TAB,click on the IS EXECUTABLE box. In Terminal, type ./GoogleEarthLinux.bin to install.
