Install Grub2 on Ubuntu 9.10 Newly Upgraded

When you upgrade Ubuntu 9.04 to Ubuntu 9.10, GRUB loader is still using the old version. In this article, We will share how to install the Grand Unified Bootloader version 2 on Linux Ubuntu 9.10 that just upgraded. Grub 2 is an innovation of the GNU GRUB. It has a very good ability in doing the boot on linux operating system. GRUB2 can be used on (GNU / Linux, * BSD, Mac OS, etc). With the ability to do good in the boot, then we can reduce the time to wait.

Based on the research project PUPA, GRUB 2 is more modular and portable than its predecessor. Some of the GRUB 2 scheduled improvements include:

  1. a graphical interface, including theming,

  2. modular loading,

  3. cross-platform compatibility,

  4. scripting support,

  5. user-customized boot entries,

  6. revised partition naming.


    Let's install grub 2 on Ubuntu 9.10 that just upgraded:
  1. We will install GRUB2 via terminal, please open the terminal

    sudo apt-get install grub2

    You will get instructions when install it, please to be followed until finished.

    • Select OK from grub-pc configuration
    • Select Chainload from menu.lst YES
    • At the terminal, press ENTER


  2. Let's make permanent GRUB2 on Ubuntu 9.10 upgrade, cos It is only temporary by default

    sudo upgrade-from-grub-legacy

    GRUB2 has finished to be installed on your Ubuntu 9.10 upgrade. Now, You can enjoy to boot faster through GRand Unified Bootloader version 2. Please comment us if you get some trouble when install it. We will respond as soon as possible. ^_*

hmm, what happen with your ubuntu?LOL.
probably the package of grub2 was not found on your repository. you can use another way like:

1. install grub2

sudo apt-get install grub-pc

2. make permanent grub2

sudo upgrade-from-grub-legacy
